The Hungarian Communion of Friends celebrates the last day of their ITT-OTT conference with an evening of traditional dancing at St. Sylvester Parish in Zaleski Ohio. This conferance has been held annually in nearby Lake Hope State Park for over thirty years. If you are of Hungarian descent and want to get in touch with your traditional roots check it out next August. Especially if you speak Hungarian. A very friendly group of people.
Speaking of eastern European connections, the town of Zaleski itself is named for Polish banker Peter Zaleski who created the Zaleski Company with money from wealthy Polish exiles to finance construction of the Marietta & Cincinnati railroad and surrounding coal mining and iron smelting industries in the mid 1800's. The story of Zaleski survives in old newspaper clippings that can be found in The Olde Forester website.
